  • What is the mixing ratio of BSF to Commercial Feeds?
    From our experience, 20% BSF and 80% Commercial Feeds works well for Pigs and Chicken. For example, if the daily commercial feed ration is 10Kg, the new ration is 2Kg BSF Larvae, 8Kg commercial feeds. Some literature suggests 30% for fish
  • What waste can be fed on BSF?
    Cooked kitchen scraps, boiled slaughterhouse waste and fish offals, fruit waste, vegetable waste, ground cobs, market waste, Brooder waste, Any bio-waste that can rot quickly is feed for BSF
  • Can I mix the different wastes available to me?
    Yes. Always make sure that you give the BSF a balanced diet
  • Can I use poultry waste mixed with wood shavings to feed the BSF
    Yes. If it a lot, dry it before storing. Then mix with water when just about to feed to your BSF larvae
  • How much water should I mix with dry waste?
    Just enough to make the waste moist. Not wet. Use the “lump test” to decide if the water is enough.
  • How is a “lump” test done?
    Add water into the dry waste and mix. Take a small amount in your palm and squeeze. If water is dripping, it is too much. When you unfold your palm and a nice lump remains, its good. If the waste sticks on your palm, the water is not enough
  • Which is the best organic Waste for BSF Farming?
    Cooked kitchen scraps: They contain all nutrients and are rich in carbohydrates, proteins and Fats
  • Where should I place my Shamba10s?
    In a structure with shelter against rain and direct sunshine that keeps away BSF predators such as poultry, and ants
  • Can I feed the BSF live to my animals?
    Chicken, Pigs and Catfish enjoy live BSF. For Tilapia, immobilize BSF and dry so that the BSF can float
  • How do I immobilize BSF larvae
    Spread in the middle of a wide black surface in direct sunshine or deep in boiling water
  • How will I get my BSF equipment after buying
    We will ask you to tell us which courier or public transport is the best for delivery at your location. We will use your prefereed means for delivery
